iPhone 16 is Here! “3-Minute Guide for Best Fast Charger”

Since 2020, starting with the iPhone 12 series, Apple no longer includes chargers or earphones in the box. Choosing a safe, efficient, and high-quality fast charger has become a challenge for every Apple fan.

iPhone 16 Battery Upgrade or Not?!

The early iPhone 6-7 series supported a maximum wattage of only 10W, while the iPhone XS series increased it to 18W, and a 5W charger was included. The big change came with the iPhone 11 series, which supported up to 22W and came with an 18W charger. Then, Apple launched the iPhone 12 without a charger. The iPhone 15 series currently supports up to 27W wired fast charging. For the newly announced iPhone 16 series, it is officially recommended to use a charger with 30W or more for wireless charging and a charger with 20W or more for wired charging, which can achieve a 50% charge in just 30 minutes. The era of fast charging has truly arrived!

Charge New iPhone with an Old Charger is Super Slow?

You excitedly unbox your iPhone 16, but find that it charges slowly with your old charger. Why?

  • Insufficient Wattage Leads to Longer Charging Times:
Older iPhone chargers with 5W or 18W outputs were designed for smaller battery capacities. However, as the power demands of the iPhone 16 have increased, such wattage is no longer sufficient. Using a low-power charger will significantly slow down the charging speed, and the charger might overheat from prolonged high-load usage, shortening its lifespan or even causing damage.
  • Doesn’t Support Fast Charging Protocols:
While chargers above 18W are considered fast chargers, they must support the PD (USB Power Delivery) protocol required by iPhone 16. If the older charger doesn’t support PD, charging speed will be limited, and the expected performance won’t be achieved. (Read More: Understand PD & QC Fast Charging Technology)
  • Charging Cables Also Affect Fast Charging
In addition to the charger, don’t overlook the cable. Ensure it supports fast charging and check the maximum current label—only cables supporting 3A or 5A qualify as fast charging cables.

After selecting the appropriate charger and cable, it’s also important to establish good charging habits to extend the lifespan of both your phone’s battery and the charger!
